In 2008, the most famous of mountain railways celebrates 100 years travelling to the Mer de Glace. The occasion will be marked by a number of events that have been organised to celebrate the anniversary in a manner worthy of the event: The Tourist Railway Show will be held in the buildings on the departure side of Montenvers station Sumptuous soirées are being organised twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays in July, August and September (see below for details) The high spot will be the celebration of the anniversary itself on the 9,10 and 11 August with festive Opera performances Opéra en fête . The publication of a book about the event (published by Ballu), a strip cartoon and the making of a film by par Denis Ducroz
For the Montenvers centenary, the site will also take on a " retro look " with old-fashioned rolling stock being brought back into service along with matching uniforms for the staff!

(programme) 7.00 p.m.: Musical reception at Chamonix station (Jazz band)
7.30 p.m.: set off in a "Retro" train
8.00 p.m.: Aperitif stop at Caillet
8.15 p.m.: Arrive at Montenvers with a musical reception and a tour on the theme of glaciology
8.30 p.m.: Candlelit dinner
10.30 p.m.: Jazz Soirée
11.30 p.m.: Leave the mountain top – the route will be torch lit
The evenings’ entertainment is provided by two Jazz bands – the JPZ Band >>PLUS and Happy Swinger >>PLUS
