Mountain Activities

Chamonix is also the perfect playground for mountain bikers. For everybody's enjoyment (and especially to co-exist happily with ramblers) this sporting activity has its rule book.

Where can you practise mountain biking? 
Quite a few trails  can bu used with a mountain bike, however, from 1st July to 31st August, the only trails accessible to mountain bikes are: 

 

Brévent-Flégère Site

Summer 2008 information: Planpraz gondola and Brévent cable car closed until December 2008

  • the trail from Brévent back to Planpraz
  • The  Brévent gully (Planpraz down to Chamonix)
  • Planpraz - Charlanon - Plan des Evettes
  • Note : Within the Aiguilles Rouges Nature Reserve, mountain biking is strictly forbidden except for the sector of the Charles Bozon trail  between the Brévent cable-car arrival station and the "Cheminée du Brévent".

    Balme site

Code of conduct

  • follow the highway code and respect walkers
  • Use the marked  trails for your own safety and in respect  for private property
  • equip your bike with a bell
  • please be cautious and courteous while you are overtaking or passing walkers
  • do not overestimate your ability, control your speed
  • Do not drop your rubbish, reclose any gates
  • make sure your bike is in good working order and that you have a repair kit
  • If you go on your own, leave your itinerary with someone
